On October 11 and 12, 2022, five events related to the PEANUTPUGLIA project - Production and enhancement of peanut fruit in Puglia - funded under the RDP Puglia 2014-2020 - SM 16.2 "Support for pilot projects and the development of new products, practices, processes, and technologies," with a total amount of €452,714.00, will take place. The events will start on the morning of October 11, 2022:
The last event will take place on October 12, 2022, at 10:30 AM at the Entomology Laboratory of the DAFNE Department, where Prof. Giacinto S. Germinara will showcase post-harvest phytophagous.
At 11:30 AM at the Laboratory of Vegetable Production Quality of the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Food, Natural Resources, and Engineering (DAFNE) - University of Foggia, (Via Napoli No. 25 in Foggia), Dr. Damiana Tozzi and Dr. Michele Andrea De Santis will analyze the productive parameters of peanut cultivation.
At 3:45 PM in the experimental fields located on the farm of the Lead Partner - Aziende Agricole Riunite Pedone Soc. Agr. a r.l. (via Manfredonia, km 2.500 – Foggia) - three field visits will be conducted, where Prof. Zina Flagella and Dr. Michele Andrea De Santis will proceed with:
- Description of full-field agronomic experimental trials on peanut cultivation in the Mediterranean environment.
Evaluation of ecophysiological traits on peanut genotypes cultivated with eco-sustainable agronomic strategies.
At 5:15 PM in the same experimental fields, Prof. Giacinto S. Germinara will evaluate the presence and harmfulness of click beetles on peanuts in the field.
These five events will be important for a better understanding of peanut cultivation and development in our region. In fact, the project aims to study and develop the most suitable varietal selection for the territory, test innovative cultivation techniques to make the crop profitable and competitive in the Puglia region, and assess the adaptability of current harvesting machines or the need for specific ones to maximize yields. Additionally, the project aims to test and refine the best storage and conditioning techniques for peanuts in the post-harvest phase to offer high-quality products with the required specifications to the market.
The project partners form an Operational Group of the PEI AGRI, a cooperation model based on the "interactive innovation model" that involves collaboration among various actors to make the best use of different complementary types of knowledge. The main objective is co-creating and disseminating solutions/opportunities ready to be implemented in practice. The PEANUT GO is composed of significant stakeholders such as: AZIENDE AGRICOLE RIUNITE PEDONE, DARE PUGLIA, UNIVERSITA’ DEGLI STUDI DI FOGGIA, CIA PUGLIA, CONAPO, I.F.OR. SRL, and consulting companies that have been promoting and evaluating innovations in the agri-food sector for years, such as ARETE’ and CASSANDRO.
